Sequels always have a craze but only when the first part is a blockbuster. Otherwise, making a “Part 2” for everything just doesn’t make sense. These days, whenever fans meet directors or producers, they immediately ask, “When’s the sequel coming?” without thinking whether those films even deserve one. During the promotions of Mirai, director Karthik Ghattamaneni was asked about Eagle 2. But when the first part itself was a flop, asking for a sequel seems pointless. The same situation recently came up for director Samuthirakani at the Kantara event.
When asked about a continuation to Bro starring Pawan Kalyan, Samuthirakani said that the script is ready and that the film will go on floors once Power Star gives his nod. Sounds good but the truth is, Bro didn’t do well commercially. Producer Vishwaprasad himself admitted it. The film survived only because of Pawan Kalyan’s image and some non-theatrical rights, but content-wise, it didn’t satisfy fans or general audiences. That’s why only a few fans truly feel special about Bro.
Instead of Bro 2, it would be better if Samuthirakani does a new story with Pawan Kalyan. After all, Sai Dharam Tej’s character already dies in Bro, so they’d have to bring in someone new. Moreover, Pawan has already played divine roles before like in Gopala Gopala. Repeating the same “God” character again and again wouldn’t make sense.
Besides, Pawan still has an unfinished project with Surender Reddy, and he’s also excited about making sequels and prequels for OG. So, realistically, Bro 2 seems unlikely to happen. However, Samuthirakani is reportedly considering making Vinodhaya Sitham 2, the original Tamil version of Bro, which was a super hit there.
