As Christmas brings festive cheer, theatres are witnessing a steady flow of new releases. While top-tier stars are absent from the race, films led by young actors are drawing attention. Among them, Shambala has stood out due to its strong promotions and intriguing theme. Starring Aadi Sai Kumar in the lead, the film is set to release on Thursday, with special premiere shows starting Wednesday night. On the occasion of his birthday, Aadi interacted with the media in Hyderabad and shared insights into the journey of Shambala.
Speaking about his first reaction to the story, Aadi said the title itself caught his attention instantly. Once he heard the complete narration, he felt confident that it was a film he had to do. Stories rooted in mythology are resonating well with audiences today, and Shambala holds a unique place in ancient lore. It is believed to be a pure land inhabited by people untouched by corruption, and the film revolves around events connected to this mystical place. Interestingly, soon after he agreed to this project, Kalki 2898 AD released, which further popularized the name Shambala among the masses.
Aadi plays the role of a geologist in the film. When a meteor falls in a village, the Geological Survey of India sends his character to Shambala to investigate. What follows forms the core of the story. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, special care was taken in designing his look and costumes. He credits the visual effects, production design, and technical departments for delivering high-quality work.
On the film’s theme that balances belief and science, Aadi shared that while he believes in certain traditions followed at home, he does not support blind superstition. He strongly believes in science, and the film explores concepts that go beyond both belief systems and scientific logic—elements best experienced on the big screen.
Discussing challenges, Aadi noted that today’s audience seeks a complete cinematic experience. Otherwise, they are content to wait for an OTT release. Keeping this in mind, the makers invested nearly double his market range to ensure a rich theatrical experience. Since most of the film unfolds at night, the shoot was physically demanding. However, the positive response to the first look and promotional material has boosted the team’s confidence even before release.
His family actively participated in the film’s promotions. Aadi shared with a smile that they had to persuade his father to join the events. His mother’s dialogue at a film function went viral on social media. He believes that some films come together effortlessly, and Shambala has been one such experience for him.
Looking back on his 14-year journey as a lead actor, Aadi said surviving the ups and downs of the industry gives him immense satisfaction. He firmly believes that a single film can change everything, and that belief has kept him moving forward with confidence.
On the Christmas release competition, Aadi feels the festive season benefits all films. He also mentioned that his friend Roshan’s film Champion is releasing the same week and expressed confidence in its success as well.
As for upcoming projects, Aadi revealed that he has completed a film titled Sub-Inspector Yugandhar for ETV Win. Made specifically for a theatrical experience, the film is expected to release soon.
