Experts have warned that skipping breakfast can contribute to increased body fat. Nutritionist Pooja Makhija stated that individuals who regularly skip breakfast have a 31% higher chance of accumulating belly fat, a 48% higher risk of being overweight and a 44% higher likelihood of developing obesity-related issues.
Not having breakfast deprives the body of essential energy, leading to a drop in blood sugar levels and triggering cravings for sugary foods. As a result, people often consume more junk food and sweets during lunch or in the evening, which contributes to weight gain and the accumulation of fat around the waist.
Dr. Vijay Negalur, Head of the Diabetology Department at KIMS Hospitals in Thane, explained that while skipping breakfast may not directly cause these problems, it does impact metabolism. Therefore, consuming a balanced, nutritious breakfast is essential for a healthy start to the day.
