For many, the day doesn’t start without a cup of tea. Tea is an emotional and cultural ritual. Guests are immediately offered tea. Drinking once is fine, but some sip tea multiple times a day. Doctors warn that excess tea can cause acidity.
Risks of Drinking Too Much Tea
Caffeine, milk, and sugar in tea can cause bloating, gas, sleep problems, and anxiety. Overconsumption can lead to dehydration. Tannins in tea affect digestion and can even cause constipation.
How Much Should You Drink
According to nutritionist Rutuja, two cups per day is safe. Drinking more than that can be harmful. The timing of tea matters too. Avoid tea after 4 PM as it can disturb sleep. Drinking tea during meals is also not recommended.
How to Drink Tea Properly
Many accompany tea with biscuits, rusk, or fried snacks like samosas and pakoras. While tasty, these harm digestion. Healthier alternatives include roasted chickpeas or makhana, which provide nutrients and energy while reducing the risk of dehydration.
Things to Remember
Do not exceed two cups per day. Reduce tea intake whenever possible. Drinking decoction tea or green tea without milk and sugar is healthier.
