Doctors warn that the tomato ketchup commonly consumed with foods like pizza, burgers, and noodles offers taste but no real nutrition. According to medical experts, commercially produced ketchup contains excessive sugar, salt, and preservatives, while lacking essential nutrients such as protein, fiber, and micronutrients. Doctors say it is used only for flavor and provides no health benefits.
As per doctors, regular consumption of ketchup can increase the risk of heart problems, obesity, insulin resistance, acidity, digestive issues, joint pain, kidney stones, and allergies. High sodium levels and fructose corn syrup are particularly harmful to the body, doctors explain. Health experts advise choosing homemade tomato chutney or fresh sauces instead and recommend being cautious with chemically processed ketchups available in the market.
