Chia seeds are widely regarded by nutrition experts as a nutrient-dense food. Around 30 grams, or roughly two tablespoons, provide about 150 calories along with 4.5 grams of protein, 8 grams of healthy fats, 5 grams of omega-3 fatty acids and 10 grams of fibre. They also contain nutrients such as potassium, zinc, selenium, manganese and magnesium. The fibre in chia seeds can help promote a feeling of fullness for longer, which may support appetite management. They can be soaked in water and added to foods such as yoghurt as part of a balanced diet.
However, experts caution that consuming chia seeds alone does not guarantee significant weight loss. Effective weight management also requires portion control and a balanced, calorie-conscious diet containing adequate protein, healthy fats and fibre. Simply adding chia seeds while continuing to consume unhealthy or high-calorie foods is unlikely to produce the desired results. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet and appropriate portions remain important for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, with chia seeds serving as one nutritious addition to the overall diet.
