Water is essential for the proper functioning of the human body. From regulating body temperature to improving digestion, water plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health. However, many people are often confused about what type of water should be consumed at different times. Especially during summer, questions arise about whether drinking cold water or hot water is healthier. According to health experts, the way water should be consumed depends on the situation, doctors said. Drinking cold water can provide quick relief when the body is dehydrated, after prolonged exposure to heat, or when a person experiences excessive sweating and intense thirst.
On the other hand, drinking warm or hot water is considered beneficial when digestion is weak or when someone is suffering from indigestion, cold, cough, or throat irritation, doctors said. Ayurveda also suggests that drinking water after boiling and cooling it is beneficial for maintaining balance in the body. This method is believed to help regulate the body’s doshas such as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Experts also advise against drinking water that has been stored for a very long time, as it may affect health. In general, drinking boiled and cooled water is considered a healthy choice for daily consumption.
