According to Ayurvedic doctors, Punarnava (Galijeru) is a powerful medicinal herb known for its rejuvenating properties. Commonly found in rural areas, every part of the plant leaves, stem, and roots has therapeutic value. Experts say it is especially beneficial for kidney related disorders, urinary tract infections, liver inflammation, obesity, diabetes, and respiratory issues. Though available in red and white varieties, the white Punarnava is considered more effective.
Regular consumption of the leaves two to three times a week may help reduce water retention, purify the blood, and ease joint pain and breathing problems. Rich in antioxidants, Vitamin C, and essential minerals, it supports overall body strength and recovery. Herbal preparations such as decoctions and medicated oils are traditionally used to reduce swelling and pain. However, doctors advise that pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should avoid using this herb.
