Doctors say many people believe that extra white flour indicates better quality, but this is often a misconception. According to medical experts, flour that appears unnaturally white is usually chemically treated using bleaching agents, which can be harmful to health.
Genuine wheat flour is never pure white. It usually has a light off-white or cream color. Choosing flour only based on its bright appearance can negatively affect digestion and may lead to long-term health issues, doctors warn.
Medical experts also point out that smell is an important indicator of flour quality. Adulterated flour often gives off a chemical or unusual odor, which becomes stronger after storage. Natural wheat flour, on the other hand, has a mild, natural aroma with no bitter or chemical smell.
