Many times, when a movie releases, the makers proudly announce it as a big hit, share posters of box office collections, and fans celebrate saying their hero has scored another success. But after a few days, the real result comes out — and it seems something similar happened with Vijay Deverakonda’s recent film.
Vijay, who became a popular star with hits like Pelli Choopulu, Arjun Reddy, and Geetha Govindam, couldn’t maintain the same success in his later movies. Though his acting has always been praised, most of his recent films failed due to weak stories and poor content. His latest movie Kingdom released in theatres at the end of May this year. On release day, Rashmika Mandanna even posted that Vijay had scored a hit, and the first-day audience response was quite positive. But from the second day, the talk turned average.
The movie was made with a huge ₹130 crore budget and was planned as a two-part story. The first part covered only half the story, but the collections did not match the investment. As a result, reports suggest the second part has now been dropped. Meanwhile, Vijay is currently busy shooting Rowdy Janardhan produced by Dil Raju and a period film directed by Rahul Sankrityan. Kingdom director Gautam Tinnanuri is also working on releasing his small-budget film Magic. According to reports, the Kingdom sequel, which was supposed to start next year, has been cancelled due to financial reasons. The truth will be clear in a few more months.
