Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has expressed disappointment over not being able to fulfil her dream of portraying legendary singer M.S. Subbulakshmi on screen. In an interview with a media outlet, the actress revealed that she had planned a biographical film on the iconic singer with filmmaker Rajiv Menon in 2014. However, the project could not move forward due to a court stay order. Vidya said playing Subbulakshmi had been a long-cherished dream of hers. She also shared that her family begins each day by listening to the singer’s devotional rendition of the Suprabhatam. The actress added that she knew a great deal about Subbulakshmi’s life and considered Menon’s script exceptional.
Although the film did not materialise, Vidya Balan said she found another way to pay tribute to the legendary singer through a special photoshoot conducted two years ago. The photographs gained widespread attention, and she subsequently received several opportunities, she revealed. Meanwhile, another biopic on M.S. Subbulakshmi is in the works under the title ‘M.S.’, with the subtitle ‘A Legacy on Screen’. Rashmika Mandanna is set to portray the legendary vocalist, while filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri is directing the project. Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music for the film.
