SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role, has become the subject of fresh speculation in film circles. Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran are also playing key roles in the highly anticipated project. The film is reportedly being planned for an April 7, 2027, release to coincide with Ugadi. However, industry chatter suggests that completing the film in time could prove challenging. Amid these reports, rumours have emerged that Prabhas’ Fauzi might take over the April release slot if Varanasi is postponed. Neither the Varanasi team nor the makers of Fauzi have officially confirmed these developments, so the release-date speculation remains unverified.
Meanwhile, discussions continue about Varanasi’s international promotional strategy and its potential to attract audiences beyond India. Brazil, France, Mexico and the United States are among the markets reportedly being considered for extensive promotions. Some industry observers believe that the film has yet to generate the level of global excitement expected after Rajamouli’s RRR achieved international recognition. There are also opinions that local promotions need greater attention alongside the overseas campaign. With the film reportedly carrying a break-even target of around ₹2,000 crore, its performance in the domestic market could be crucial. The coming months will reveal how the makers approach promotions, audience engagement and the film’s release plans.
