Varanasi is a prestigious pan-world film starring Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu and directed by SS Rajamouli. The movie has already created huge buzz with its title glimpse and has become one of the most talked-about projects in Indian cinema. Mahesh Babu will be seen in a powerful role named Rudra, while Priyanka Chopra plays the female lead. Reports also suggest that Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran will appear as the main antagonist, raising expectations further.
There were rumors that the film would be released in two parts, but Rajamouli has officially clarified that Varanasi will be a single film with a runtime of over three hours. He also revealed that the movie includes around 25 minutes of important scenes based on mythological themes, inspired by episodes from the Ramayana. The story is designed with Indian roots while connecting emotionally with global audiences.
According to industry sources, Varanasi is being made with a massive budget of nearly ₹1300 crores, with about ₹200 crores spent only on promotions. The film is scheduled for a worldwide IMAX release on April 7, 2027, as a Ugadi festival treat. Recent buzz suggests that Netflix has offered ₹650–700 crores for the digital rights. However, the makers are reportedly expecting close to ₹1000 crores. Rajamouli is said to be giving top priority to the theatrical run, planning the OTT release only after at least eight weeks.
