Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has emerged as the leading contender for the Chief Minister’s post in West Bengal, according to reliable party sources. Considering the unique political situation in the state, the party leadership is reportedly inclined towards his candidature. A crucial BJP legislative party meeting is scheduled for Friday, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to attend as an observer.
While several other names are being discussed in the CM race, party insiders point out that the BJP leadership has previously made unexpected selections in states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Delhi. However, some leaders argue that Bengal’s political landscape is distinct and cannot be compared with other states. Adhikari, who has been the BJP’s prominent face against Mamata Banerjee in recent years, is seen as a strong choice. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony on the 9th, with constitutional experts clarifying that the Chief Minister’s tenure ends automatically once the Assembly term concludes.
