SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, is among the Indian cinema projects attracting attention for its ambitious scale and epic storytelling. One of the most talked-about aspects of the film is its Ramayana sequence. Although the episode is reportedly expected to occupy only a limited portion of the narrative, it has already raised expectations among audiences. The film is being discussed alongside the Hindi epic Ramayana, as both projects draw on the cultural and mythological significance of the ancient Indian epic.
According to reports about an interview with Empire magazine’s podcast, Rajamouli spoke about his dissatisfaction with the way previous film adaptations of the Ramayana have presented the epic, suggesting that they did not fully capture its grandeur. He reportedly indicated that Varanasi would offer audiences a grand depiction of the Ramayana’s scale and visual splendour. These reported remarks have intensified curiosity about how the director will present the sequence within the film’s broader story. MM Keeravani is composing the music for Varanasi, which is reportedly scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7 next year. Further details about the Ramayana episode and the film’s production are awaited.
