One of the most eagerly awaited follow-ups in South Indian cinema is Rajinikanth's Jailer 2. Audiences and industry insiders think that this movie has the potential to finally earn Kollywood the ₹1000 crore it has been waiting for. Because the first installment was a huge blockbuster and made over ₹600 crore worldwide, there are high expectations.
According to reports, the producers intend to make the follow-up a star-studded extravaganza in order to create buzz outside of South India. The most recent information indicates that Bollywood's versatile actress Vidya Balan has been cast in a key role in this Nelson Dilip Kumar-directed film. After making a brief cameo in Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), this is her first major role in Tamil cinema. Vidya previously made her debut in South India in the two-part biopic NTR, which was based on the renowned actor and politician and starred Telugu superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna.
According to reports, the 46-year-old actress, who gained recognition for her strong and dramatic roles following her glitzy early career, will portray Mithun Chakraborty's older daughter in Jailer 2.The primary antagonist will be portrayed by Mithun, and Vidya's character is rumored to be closely related to the plot and essential to advancing it. The movie is presently being filmed in Chennai, and by January, post-production should start. The team will proceed to Goa to finish the remaining parts of the Chennai schedule. A major release is planned for August of next year, according to the producers.
Apart from Rajinikanth and Vidya Balan, the cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa in important roles, with S. J. Suryah joining the ensemble recently. The film will also feature special appearances by Shiva Rajkumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and Mithun Chakraborty.
