AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has long dreamed of shaping Amaravati into a world-class capital. Although people didn’t give him the chance in 2019, he relaunched his dream project as soon as he became CM again. But his recent comments that the current 29 villages are not enough and that farmers need to cooperate once more have sparked talk that a new phase of land-pooling is silently beginning in the name of the capital.
Adding to this, Chandrababu’s pitch for another 40,000 acres for a new airport and sports complex is causing concern among farmers. Despite clear signs of opposition from the public, he is still saying that “development is impossible without more land,” raising debates in political and industry circles. Is this really for development, or is it the beginning of a new land-acquisition drama to fulfill an old dream?
