Young Man Caught Selling Ganja to Buy iPhone for Girlfriend’s Birthday

A 21-year-old man from Peddapalli and his 20-year-old girlfriend were allegedly caught transporting 12 kg of ganja in Wyra on Thursday. According to police, Mithre Chaitanya and Hemalatha had purchased the contraband for ₹16,000 in Pasupulanka, Odisha, and were travelling by motorcycle to Hyderabad, where they planned to sell it for around ₹6 lakh. The duo was intercepted during a joint operation by the Eagle Force and Wyra police near a local crossroads. While attempting to flee after spotting the police, they collided with an officer trying to stop their motorcycle. The two suspects and the sub-inspector sustained minor injuries.

Police seized the motorcycle, four mobile phones and the 12 kg of ganja from the suspects. During questioning, Mithre Chaitanya reportedly told investigators that he planned to use the money earned from the sale to purchase an expensive iPhone as a birthday gift for his girlfriend. Police said three others allegedly linked to the operation—Shashi and Nagul, who were to receive and sell the ganja in Hyderabad, and Bhagwan Hantal, who allegedly supplied it—are absconding. Investigators also found that Chaitanya had three NDPS cases registered against him and had allegedly escaped from jail on April 30 this year.
