The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, says it has intensified action against organised crime since taking office in March 2017. According to the report, authorities have seized assets valued at ₹15,233 crore under the Gangsters Act as of October 2026. The reported cumulative figures show an increase over time, reaching ₹1,800 crore by August 2021, ₹9,022.33 crore by March 2023, ₹11,841 crore by August 2023 and ₹14,246 crore by the end of 2024. The report describes the government’s approach as targeting assets linked to alleged criminal activity and taking action against unauthorised structures.
The government has also linked its asset-recovery drive with housing initiatives for economically weaker families. According to the report, 148 flats have been completed and handed over to poor families on identified plots. However, asset seizure, demolition of unauthorised structures and final confiscation are legally distinct processes and should not be treated as interchangeable. Seizure may involve legal proceedings, while permanent transfer of ownership depends on the applicable legal process. The figures and housing details presented here are based on the supplied report and have not been independently verified.
