Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu announced that India will establish 100 new airports and 200 helipads over the next decade to enhance connectivity across the country. He also stated that affordable ‘UDAN Yatri Cafes’ will be set up at all airports to meet passenger needs. During his first visit to Ranchi, the minister, along with Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, inaugurated several passenger facility initiatives at the local airport.
Speaking to the media, he said that the UDAN-2 scheme, with an estimated investment of ₹29,000 crore, will be launched soon to strengthen regional connectivity. He also inaugurated a ‘Flybrary’ at Ranchi Airport, allowing passengers to read books while waiting for flights and return them at another airport. The government has reduced Aviation Turbine Fuel prices and airport landing and parking charges to support the aviation sector. With around five lakh domestic passengers traveling daily, the government is closely monitoring airfares and plans to increase flights if demand rises.
