US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a two hour meeting discussing key global issues including trade, Taiwan, the Iran conflict, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence competition.
Following the talks, Xi Jinping hosted a dinner for Trump, his cabinet members including Marco Rubio and Scott Bessent, as well as business leaders such as Elon Musk and Jensen Huang. Trump’s visit marked a rare diplomatic engagement after nearly a decade, receiving a grand welcome in China. A closed-door meeting followed the banquet.
Both leaders expressed cautious optimism about improving trade relations. Trump emphasized the need for friendship over rivalry between the two nations. However, Xi Jinping issued a strong warning on Taiwan, stating that any interference could escalate tensions. Despite differences, both sides agreed on several economic and energy related cooperation points.
