Won’t Let Singareni Go the BSNL Way - Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the Telangana government would not allow Singareni Collieries Company Limited to suffer the fate of BSNL. He said the government plans to diversify Singareni beyond coal mining into minerals such as gold and lithium and make it a profitable public sector enterprise. The government’s objective is to develop Singareni to the level of NTPC, he said. Bhatti made these remarks after representatives of recognised Singareni trade unions met and felicitated him at the state Secretariat on Monday. He said protecting Singareni, which he described as an important public sector institution of Telangana, and ensuring that it remains profitable for future generations were key priorities.

Bhatti said the company had suffered losses under the previous government due to a lack of new coal blocks and the closure of existing mines. He said the current government had worked to secure coal blocks including Naini, Tadicherla-2 and Manuguru Deep Side Block-2. Efforts were also made to resolve issues related to the Naini block in Odisha, he added. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy described Singareni as a matter of pride for Telangana and said the company was progressing with new mines, business expansion and new projects. He assured that the government would extend full support to make Singareni one of the country’s leading public sector enterprises.
