BRS working president KTR has expressed strong opposition to the proposed open-cast coal mine near the historic Ramappa Temple. He demanded that the government withdraw the proposal, stressing the need to protect the Ramappa Temple and Ramappa Lake, which hold significant historical and environmental value. The Ramappa Temple is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making its conservation particularly important.
Concerns have been raised that open-cast mining could affect the Ramappa Lake, groundwater movement and the structural stability of the heritage monument. KTR warned that a large-scale movement would be launched if the temple or other heritage structures were harmed. He urged the government to take necessary measures to safeguard the region’s cultural and natural heritage.
