Wild Elephants Return to Chandrapur

A herd of wild elephants has once again entered Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district after crossing the Wainganga River from Gadchiroli. The elephants have been spotted around Karoli, Akapur and Gevra villages in the Saoli taluka, raising concern among farmers and residents over possible crop damage and human-elephant conflict.

The latest movement has brought back memories of an earlier elephant attack in the area, in which a resident of Sonapur was killed. Forest Department teams have been closely monitoring the herd’s movements and have alerted field personnel in vulnerable areas. Residents have been advised to maintain a safe distance, avoid approaching or chasing the elephants and immediately inform forest officials about any sightings.
