The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global health emergency following the Ebola outbreak. Over 300 cases have been reported in Congo and Uganda, with 88 deaths confirmed in Congo alone.
WHO stated that there is no immediate global threat, but warned of a potential rapid spread to neighboring countries. The virus is currently in its 17th outbreak since it was first identified in Congo in 1976.
With no fully approved treatment or vaccine available, WHO has urged countries to strengthen screening at borders and isolate infected individuals immediately to prevent further spread.
