West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a new “Detect, Delete & Deport” policy targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state, triggering a major political debate. The policy focuses on identifying illegal immigrants, removing fraudulent entries from official records such as voter lists, and deporting them in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF).
The Chief Minister stated that state police will take strict action against illegal infiltrators and hand over detained individuals to the BSF for deportation procedures. The government clarified that communities protected under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will not be affected if they meet eligibility criteria. While supporters welcomed the move as a strong step against infiltration, opposition parties raised concerns over implementation and possible misuse.
