The central government is considering a major reform in admissions to medical and engineering courses by giving weightage to board examination marks. As per the proposal under review, up to 50 percent weightage may be assigned to board exam scores, alongside entrance tests. This move aims to bring a balanced evaluation system and reduce excessive dependence on competitive exams.
The Ministry of Education is also exploring measures to lessen students’ reliance on coaching centres by making the assessment process more holistic. In addition, proposals for syllabus changes are under consideration to align academic learning with entrance requirements. If implemented, these reforms could significantly reshape the admission process across the country.
