Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government will construct a memorial in Karur to honour the 41 people who lost their lives in the September 2025 TVK rally stampede. During his first official visit to Karur as Chief Minister, Vijay described the tragedy as the most painful and unforgettable chapter of his life, saying the district would always remain close to his heart.
He said the memorial would stand as a lasting tribute to the victims and ensure their sacrifice is remembered for generations. As part of the government's rehabilitation measures, Vijay also handed over government job appointment orders to 32 eligible family members of the victims. He further criticised the then DMK government and police, alleging they failed to manage the crowd effectively. Details regarding the memorial's location, design, budget, and construction schedule are yet to be announced.
