Veligonda Dream Becomes Reality...New Chapter Tomorrow - Chandrababu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said a new chapter in the state’s history would be written tomorrow in Markapuram district with the launch of the first phase of the Veligonda project. He said the project, which was initiated in 1996 to address the water crisis in the drought-hit western Prakasam region, has finally reached a major milestone. According to the Chief Minister, Krishna River waters flowing through the Nallamala hills into the Nallamala Sagar will help address the region’s long-standing water problems.

Chandrababu said the first phase of the project would provide irrigation water to 1.19 lakh acres and drinking water to around four lakh people. He expressed gratitude to residents of 11 villages who surrendered their land, homes and native places for the project. He described Veligonda as more than an irrigation project, calling it a source of support for farmers, a potential health safeguard for families affected by fluoride, a pathway to opportunities for local youth and a driver of development for the region. He invited people to join the Veligonda celebrations tomorrow.
