Special Varuna Yagam rituals began on Friday at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam on Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada. The rituals are being conducted with the intention of bringing an end to drought-like conditions, ensuring timely and abundant rainfall, filling rivers, ponds and reservoirs, and ensuring prosperity for farmers.
The rituals began at 6:15 AM at Sri Durga Snanaghat with a Vighneswara Puja. Temple Chairman Borra Radhakrishna (Gandhi) and Executive Officer V.K. Sheena Naik participated in the special prayers. Under the guidance of temple Sthanacharya Siva Prasad Sharma, a team of priests performed Varuna Anuvaka and Karaka Parayanas. The priests stood waist-deep in the sacred Krishna River while conducting the prayers, seeking timely and sufficient rainfall.
