Uttar Pradesh Rains: 56 Killed, 46 Injured in Three Days

Uttar Pradesh has witnessed intense rainfall and storm-related incidents over the past three days, leaving 56 people dead and 46 injured, according to state officials. Sitapur recorded the highest number of fatalities at seven. More than 1,000 houses were damaged, while several districts faced waterlogging and flood-like conditions. The state received 45.1 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending Sunday, compared with the normal 1.8 mm.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds affected Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Bareilly and other areas. The Central Water Commission warned of a flood threat in low-lying areas as the Ghagra and Rapti rivers continued to rise. In Unnao, water accumulated near the Sonik toll plaza on the Ganga Expressway. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared a video of the waterlogging and criticised the state government, referring to the expressway as “Ganga Express Waterway.”
