Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Eliminedi Madhava Reddy Srisailam Left Bank Canal (AMR-SLBBC) project will be completed by June 2028. He chaired a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on Monday to assess the progress of the project. The minister stated that the government is fully committed to completing this crucial project for South Telangana.
He emphasized that there would be no compromise on the safety of workers involved in tunnel construction. The government is expediting fund releases, land acquisition, and technical and administrative clearances. Around half a kilometre of tunnelling work has been completed after resumption. Three advanced arm boomer machines imported from abroad will arrive by the end of this month to speed up the works. The project aims to draw 40 TMC of Krishna water from Srisailam to irrigate 4.01 lakh acres, supply drinking water to 618 fluoride-affected villages, and meet industrial needs. He added that the project will be fully effective only after the completion of Dindi project, Nakkalagandi reservoir, and Pendli Pak balancing reservoir canals.
