Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy chaired a high-level review meeting at his Kundan Bagh camp office to discuss measures for strengthening the financial position of irrigation corporations. He directed officials to prepare a comprehensive funding roadmap within 10 days, aimed at reducing the debt burden and mobilising funds at lower interest rates. Stressing the need for financial sustainability, the Minister said irrigation agencies should gradually reduce their dependence on budgetary allocations and focus on generating stable sources of revenue.
Uttam Kumar Reddy also proposed setting up solar power projects on lands owned by irrigation corporations to create additional income without imposing any financial burden on farmers. He instructed officials to complete all pending statutory audits immediately, restructure high-interest loans to reduce government expenditure and prepare detailed reports on project-wise loans, funding and execution status. He further directed the department to prioritise projects that require lower investment and can be completed quickly, compile details of departmental land and assets within 15 days and ensure timely payment of land acquisition compensation to farmers.
