The United States has proposed a major change to its student visa policy by limiting the stay of international students to four years. Earlier, students on F-1 visas were allowed to remain in the country under the Duration of Status (D/S) rule until they completed their academic programs.
Under the proposed rule, students who wish to stay beyond four years must obtain fresh authorization from US authorities. The change is expected to significantly impact around 330,000 Indian students currently studying in the United States, especially those pursuing longer academic or research programs.
