Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt has sparked controversy with his remarks on H1B visas and Indian professionals in the United States. He alleged that Indians were taking away American jobs through visa programs and described a global “visa cartel.” His reference to Hyderabad’s Chilkur Balaji Temple as a “visa temple” triggered strong reactions on social media. Schmitt also criticised H1B, L1, F1, and OPT visa programs, claiming they negatively impact American workers.
The senator further targeted Indian students and tech workers, stating that many foreign students in the US are Indians who later secure H1B visas and green cards. He accused major tech companies of reducing opportunities for Americans. However, his comments have drawn criticism from Indian communities and social media users.
