The United States Department of Justice is reportedly considering dropping criminal fraud charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, according to a recent Forbes report. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the DOJ may announce its decision soon, while the US Securities and Exchange Commission is also said to be moving toward settling a parallel civil fraud investigation linked to the Adani Group.
The case, originally filed in 2024, alleged that executives of Adani Group were involved in a bribery and securities fraud scheme connected to solar energy contracts in India. However, the Adani Group has consistently denied all allegations and maintained that it complied with all legal and regulatory standards. If the charges are officially withdrawn, the development could become one of the most significant and politically debated corporate legal reversals involving an Indian business conglomerate in recent years.
