Union Cabinet Discusses Tough Anti-Paper Leak Bill

The Union Cabinet met on Friday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss a draft bill aimed at curbing question paper leaks and examination malpractices. The proposed legislation is expected to include stringent punishments, heavier fines and provisions for fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials. The draft will be finalised after incorporating suggestions from Cabinet ministers, as the Centre looks to strengthen the existing legal framework against organised examination fraud.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier assured strict action against those involved in paper leaks and indicated that the government would work to secure early approval for the proposed legislation. Reports suggest that the bill could be introduced in Parliament on Monday by amending provisions of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Meanwhile, Union ministers also held discussions with representatives of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on NEET and broader education reforms. CJP founder Abhijit Deepke reiterated that the protests would continue until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
