Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers amid prevailing dry conditions in the state. He stressed that power cuts must be avoided until crops are harvested, as the coming 20 days are crucial for agriculture. He instructed officials to identify areas with high agricultural power demand and increase supply accordingly, warning that farmers should not suffer crop losses due to electricity shortages.
During a review meeting with senior officials on the impact of El Niño, the Chief Minister expressed serious concern over power interruptions in several parts of the state. He questioned why electricity supply had not improved despite repeated instructions and sought explanations for the failure to increase power generation at the Yadadri power plant despite coal supply arrangements. He warned that negligence would not be tolerated and said strict action, including suspension of senior officials, could be taken if necessary. He also called for coordinated preparedness across departments, describing the El Niño situation as a crisis comparable to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Revanth Reddy directed officials to prepare action plans through June to prevent disruptions in drinking water supply and fodder availability. He called for the use of treated wastewater for construction and other non-drinking purposes in Greater Hyderabad. He also ordered the appointment of Group-1 and Group-2 officers to monitor conditions in every mandal and report developments regularly to the Chief Secretary. In addition, he directed officials to organise village meetings and awareness programmes through cultural performances to educate people about water and electricity conservation and preparedness for prolonged dry conditions.
