The Delhi High Court on Wednesday denied bail to activist Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the case concerning the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots. A Division Bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Dinesh Bhatt dismissed their appeals challenging the trial court’s decision.
The court noted that the Supreme Court had denied their bail pleas in January 2026 and permitted them to seek bail again only after the examination of protected witnesses or after one year from the January 5 order. Since neither condition has been met, the High Court said it could not modify the Supreme Court’s directions. This is the third time the High Court has denied bail to Khalid and Imam in the case.
