The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a retest for English, Commerce and Sociology under UGC NET 2026. The decision was taken after complaints were received regarding translation errors, typographical mistakes and factual errors in the question papers. Following a review and recommendations from a committee, the NTA decided to conduct the examinations again. The English paper will be held in the first shift and Commerce in the second shift on September 9, while Sociology will be conducted in the first shift on September 10.
Candidates appearing for the retest will not have to pay any additional examination fee, the NTA clarified. Details regarding examination centres and admit cards will be announced soon on the official website. Results for the remaining 84 subjects will be released as scheduled. The UGC NET examination was conducted across the country for 87 subjects between June 22 and 30. The examination is conducted for eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, PhD admissions and Assistant Professor positions.
