Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s government over a series of murders reported across the state. Questioning the government’s response to the law-and-order situation, Stalin said concerns over public safety were growing and asked why the Chief Minister was running what he described as a “reels government.” He referred to the daylight killing of brothers Dalton and Nicholas in Tirunelveli and the murder of a youth named Ajith in Chennai following a dispute reportedly linked to competition in the sale of ganja.
Stalin also referred to the death of a woman police constable, Kannagi, in Paramakudi and murders reported in areas including Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Kanyakumari and Cumbum. He alleged that repeated criminal incidents were affecting people’s sense of security and urged the government to take stringent measures to prevent further killings and restore public confidence. His remarks were part of the Opposition’s criticism of the state government’s handling of law and order.
