US President Donald Trump has expressed strong frustration with South Korea while praising his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Trump said South Korea had declined to assist the United States over Iran. Referring to the nearly 39,000 US troops stationed in South Korea, he questioned why Seoul would not cooperate with Washington on Iran while relying on the US military for security against North Korea.
Trump has also ordered a significant reduction in joint military exercises with South Korea, citing the cost of the drills and his relationship with Kim. He said Kim has always treated him with respect and described their relationship as a positive one. Trump also revealed that Kim Jong Un had responded to his recent outreach for renewed dialogue, though he did not provide details about the response.
