US President Donald Trump has announced that an “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine has taken effect immediately. He said both sides had agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure, including electricity, oil and gas facilities. Trump urged the two countries not to violate the arrangement and shared the announcement on his Truth Social platform.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said attacks on his country’s energy infrastructure could be stopped, but alleged that Russian President Vladimir Putin was unwilling to do so. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was prepared to stop targeting Russian oil refineries if Moscow halted strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. Trump’s announcement came amid these developments. However, neither Russia nor Ukraine had officially responded to the reported ceasefire at the time of the announcement.
