TRAI Revises Recharge Rules

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced new rules aimed at providing mobile users with more flexible recharge options. Under the latest amendment, telecom operators must offer Voice and SMS-only Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) with validity of 30 days or less, along with a plan that can be renewed on the same date every month.

The new framework is intended particularly for customers who do not require mobile data and want affordable calling and SMS options. However, the rule does not mean that every existing 28-day telecom recharge must automatically be replaced with a 30-day plan. TRAI already requires operators to offer at least one 30-day plan and a plan renewable on the same date each month.
