

A 24-year-old woman, Afeefa, daughter of Vijayawada Traffic DCP Sheikh Shireen Begum, died in a fatal road accident on the highway near Etukuru Bypass in Guntur district on Sunday. Four others were injured in the crash. The group was travelling from Vijayawada to Chirala Beach when the accident occurred. According to the initial details, the driver of a government Civil Supplies Department ration-supply lorry travelling ahead suddenly applied the brakes. The car following it lost control and collided with the lorry and the road divider. Afeefa, who was seated in the rear of the car, suffered severe injuries and died at the spot.
The car driver Avinash and passengers Sudheer, Vamsi and Ruthvik sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby private hospital by locals. After learning about the accident, DCP Shireen Begum reached the hospital and collapsed after being informed about her daughter’s death. Doctors provided treatment and later shifted her to a private hospital in Vijayawada for further care. Afeefa’s body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem examination. Nallapadu CI Bhaskar registered a case and launched an investigation. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed condolences to Shireen Begum and her family over the tragic death.
