A fresh controversy has emerged around the newly released film Toxic after YouTuber Suraj Kumar reportedly received a legal notice over his review of the movie. Suraj shared a screenshot of the notice on X after uploading his review online. The notice was issued by Aiplex Software Private Limited on behalf of KVN Monster Mind Creations LLP, an entity associated with the film. Despite receiving the notice, the review video was reportedly still available online when the matter was reported.
The development comes in the wake of a Bengaluru court order dated August 22, which granted an ex parte temporary injunction against the publication or circulation of false or defamatory content concerning Toxic. The order is in force until the next hearing scheduled for September 28. The case was filed by KVN Productions LLP against several defendants, including X Corp and unidentified individuals. Importantly, the court order relates specifically to false or defamatory material and does not automatically prohibit negative reviews of the film. The incident has triggered renewed discussion online about film criticism, freedom of expression and the use of legal notices against negative content during a movie’s crucial opening period. Toxic stars Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, and is directed by Geetu Mohandas.
