Thousands of mourners gathered at the Grand Mosalla Complex in Tehran to pay their final respects to former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where special funeral prayers were held. Iranian state media reported that three of his sons—Mostafa, Meysam, and Masoud Khamenei—were present beside the coffin. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and senior military officials also attended the ceremony. However, the absence of the current Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has drawn widespread attention and speculation.
According to reports, Mojtaba Khamenei has remained out of the public eye since assuming the position of Supreme Leader and was also absent from his mother's funeral a week earlier. Iranian officials reportedly attributed his absence to security concerns. Meanwhile, Iran strongly condemned remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that the United States could have targeted Iranian leaders during the funeral if it had chosen to do so. Reacting to the comments, Iran stated that the United States could never understand the grief of the Iranian people and accused it of lacking respect for history and civilization.
