The Unique Lifestyle of the Korowai Tribe

While birds are commonly associated with living in trees, a tribal community in Indonesia has made treetops its home. The Korowai tribe, living in the dense forests of Papua, builds houses high above the ground. Their homes are typically constructed at heights ranging from 10 to 50 metres. The tribe believes that living above the ground helps protect them from wild animals while also providing a clear view of their surroundings.

The Korowai people build their homes using materials such as wood, leaves and other resources found in the forest. Wooden ladders are used to reach the elevated houses. Although the homes may appear small from the outside, the tribe says they have enough space inside to accommodate an entire family. Images and videos of these unique tree houses have sparked discussions on social media, with many people expressing amazement at the construction and showing interest in the tribe’s lifestyle, which is vastly different from modern city life.
