Renowned poet Daasarathi Krishnamacharyulu, who raised his voice against injustice, inequality, and the Nizam’s autocratic rule through his powerful writings, is being remembered on his birth anniversary today. A progressive poet and social reformer, Daasarathi inspired generations with his famous line, “Na Telangana Koti Ratanaala Veena,” and dreamt of an equal society free from oppression.

Daasarathi was a master of Telugu, Urdu, and English literature. He translated the works of Mirza Ghalib into Telugu, introduced Persian style Rubayis to Telugu literature, and authored celebrated works such as Agnidhara, Rudraveena, and Mahandhrodyam. His poetry reflected social justice, patriotism, and the struggles of common people, earning him several literary honors, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for Timirantho Samaram.

Apart from literature, Daasarathi also made a lasting impact on Telugu cinema by writing memorable songs that continue to resonate with audiences. Born on July 22, 1925, in Chinnagudur of present day Mahabubabad district, he served as a teacher, Panchayat Inspector, and Akashvani employee before entering the film industry. He passed away on November 5, 1987, leaving behind a rich literary legacy.
