That Map Will No Longer Appear on Nepal’s Currency

The Nepal government has approved a new design for its ₹1 coin, removing the political map that included the disputed Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura regions. Instead, the coin will feature the historic Lo Gekar Buddhist Monastery in Mustang district, symbolizing Nepal’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

The disputed border regions have remained a point of contention between India and Nepal, with both countries claiming ownership. Nepal had included these areas in its official political map in 2020, later printing the map on some coins and currency notes. However, the latest decision applies only to the ₹1 coin, and no changes have been announced for the ₹100 note, which still carries the disputed map.
